A modular kitchen is one of the first things a family notices about a new home, and one of the last things they stop touching every day. Here's what we're specifying most often for clients in Vadodara this year.

1. Matte and textured finishes over high-gloss

High-gloss laminates show fingerprints and scratches quickly in daily use. Matte laminates and textured acrylics are wearing better and photographing just as well, especially in darker shades like charcoal and bottle green.

2. Tall units instead of overhead lofts

Full-height tall units — for pantry storage, ovens and appliance garages — are replacing shallow overhead lofts. They use the same wall space more usefully and are easier to reach without a stool.

3. Hidden handles and push-open shutters

Profile or push-open shutters keep the kitchen face flat and easy to wipe down, which matters more than the look in homes that cook daily.

4. Quartz over marble for countertops

Quartz resists staining from turmeric and oil far better than natural marble, with a similar look. We now recommend it as the default for anyone cooking Indian food daily.

5. A dedicated wet and dry zone

Splitting the sink and prep area (wet zone) from the cooking and storage area (dry zone) keeps spice boxes and small appliances away from splashes — a small layout change that changes how a kitchen actually feels to use.
